Podcast Late Adopter
When I realized that I wanted an MP3 player for Christmas, I began to think of all the things I could do with one. Then it started to become clear that I couldn't wait that long. I unleashed my consumerist yeti. The yeti is rarely seen, but when he is spotted, it's usually at Best Buy.
So then I ran out to buy a memory card so I could use my Palm as an MP3 player, but then I found out the memory card slot in my Palm is broken and Cingular won't fix it for me. I took the phone apart, but turned back when I reached what was like a rickety rope bridge over a gaping jungle chasm: a step that looked like it might require soldering.
So I bought a rather cheap MP3 player, a Sansa C240 1GB MP3 player. I didn't want an iPod because it's not compatible with Netlibrary, a free audiobook database that my library subscribes to. The Sansa hardly comes with any documentation, and I just learned how to erase songs by trial and error about 15 minutes ago. And I'm still not sure how to recharge the battery (do I just leave it plugged into the USB port)? But all in all, I'm rather impressed with its capabilities, from something no bigger than a Pez dispenser.
I also bought a cheap FM transmitter, so I can listen to it in my car, which is what I really wanted it for. But I hate the bass response in the transmitter, so I don't like listening to much music outside of jazz. But I realized that the audiobooks and podcasts sound pretty good, at least as good as any AM radio.
So I've been trolling the NPR site for the usual stuff like All Songs Considered and Morning Becomes Eclectic as well as Yahoo Podcasts for interesting things. I've been looking at music and finance for the most part so far. This one called Coverville looks fun, a good niche program consisting of obscure cover songs.
Anyway, I'm soliciting podcast recommendations from my loyal readers. And the next time I get some free time, I reward you by posting some pictures of the inside of my Palm Treo.
