Spanish Town Mardi Gras 2005

Just like last year, the weather was great for Spanish Town Mardi Gras. I was worried because Mardi Gras was so early this year.

The Nuevo Hippie Cover Band was scheduled to play sometime after the parade, so I stuck around where the party was, catching the parade near the end of Spanish Town Road. I took some pictures. You can click on the thumbnails to get a bigger picture.

Look at the size of this float. The people in it had to duck under the cable lines. Luckily nobody was decapitated. The parade gets longer and bigger every year. It clocked in at about an hour and 45 minutes this time.

The thing I like best about Mardi Gras is that you usually end up seeing a whole crew of old friends, all of whom you haven't seen all year. Here's a picture of some of those old friends watching the parade. I think my wife would rather that I didn't know most of these people...

...and especially these people.

Here's Jason Robin with a child that he found on the black market. I don't know how he found a kid that looked so much like himself. I'm joking. Jason was the conga player for Pinecone On Tent, which means that his main purpose was to help the rest of us move our gear around and to tell us when we sucked.

Behind the action, I found this woman frolicking amongst the bubbles. Only during Mardi Gras.

After the parade, I headed back to the party. Two Banger played first. It was a reunion show for them. The Nuevo Hippie Band started a bit late, I guess about 4pm. There must have been 400 people there. It looked like everybody was having a good time, and I'm sure anybody who saw me there can say that I looked like I was having a great time. I was all smiles. I'll play for free all the time if I can get a good crowd like that.

This is Drew. I would like to thank Drew and Dave and the other good people who put the party together. Everything went smoothly and a lot of people had a lot of fun.
