Widsom Teeth Removed Today

I had two of my bottom wisdom teeth removed at 8:30 this morning. They were below the gum line and were pointed sideways, pushing all of my boottom teeth forward.

With all of the drugs they gave me, I'd have to say that it was one of the least painful dental procedures I have had done. (Four root canals, four teeth oulled, fillings a plenty0, etc). They start you off on antibiotics the day before. The they give you a single Halcion to take an hour before the surgery. By the time I made it to the clinic, I fell like I had sand weights on my feet, and whatever anxiety I had about it all was gone. I was ready for a teeth-pulling party.

In the operating room, they put me on a drip (which didn't hurt either) and put a towel over my face. Before I knew it, Chase, my brother-in-law and ride home, was there; it took a second or two to realize who he was. He was ready to take me home.

I left under my own power. I went home and crashed for a few hours, listening to the bluegrass music preview channel on the digital cable. I feel pretty well now, the only annoying thing is that I have to keep a cold compress on my mouth.

I apalogize for any typos. My motor functions aren't completetly back to speed. But my mind seems alert. I might be able to study some Scrabble notecards today.

If you are intersted, the oral surgeon was Dr. Regan and his clinic is located just off the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on Flanders. If all goes well with the healing, I would have to recommend him.

I had went to him several years ago when I wanted my teeth fixed for before my wedding. I said I just wanted all of my teeth pulled and I'd just go on with dentures alone from there on out: just like my dear mom. But he clamly explained that although I had some bad teeth, the majority of my teeth were still in good shape and that I should seek out a regular dentist. But a few years down the road, when I needed my impacted wisdom teeth taken out, which he pointed out on my x-ray, then he would probably be seeing me then. So it all came around full circle.

Now that dear old mom is old, the thought of teeth pulling hurts. But, one cold January night in 1974, I could not stand another six months of the pain of my broken left wisdom tooth the dentist refused to remove until I delivered my munskin. It was about 1 am, baby on board, no drugs allowed, I gargled with Listerine and tugged at the tooth, gargled and tugged. Cooled my jaw with a cold, wet cloth, gargled and tugged some more. Sometimes sheer determination is all the drug needed. It took about 2 hrs of tugging and gargling and prancing and cooling, but I finally got that bleep out. Years later when I went to get my other teeth removed the dentist couldn't believe I had pulled it myself. But, I did and hearing your story, I can almost feel the pain again. Ouch!

Oh, those removing your wisdom teeth make you less wise?

Holy cow! My ordeal is a walk on a cool spring morning compared to your wisdom tooth story. That's like a Civil War doctor or the first scenes from "Reservoir Dogs".

You didn't even have the Internet so that you could print out directions on how to do it yourself.

Some expecting mothers play classical music for their unborn children. Others pull out their own wisdom teeth.

Or maybe it was just practice. After that, birthing a child should be a breeze.
