An Unusually Healthy Morning

| | Comments (1)

My work schedule dictates a late start on Monday mornings, which usually means that I sleep late and piddle around the house like Tony Soprano.

For some reason I decided to make the most of this morning. I woke up earlier and rode on my exercise bike for 20 minutes. As I biked, I watched a computer slide show of words to learn for Scrabble. How's that for working out mind and body!

Then for breakfast I made a homemade blueberry smoothie. When my bananas start to turn, I wrap them in plastic wrap, put them in a freezer bag and pop them into the freezer. They give my smoothies that cool frozen smooth slush consistency that I like.

Ingredients:

vanilla yogurt
frozen banana
frozen strawberries
frozen blueberries
honey
soymilk

1) Pop them into a blender, adjusting the quantities to suit your taste.

Just look at this lovely purple color.

Peaches. mangoes and pineapple are good in smoothies, too.

Watch out world!

That's much like my favorite smoothie recipe, minus the yogurt. And I substitute real maple syrup for honey. Don't want to exploit the worker bees.

I also like kiwi in my smoothies -- the fruit not the bird. One kiwi, a frozen banana, some frozen strawberries, soymilk, and some dark brown sugar for a more tropical flavor. The kiwi seeds give you something to chew on.

Small semi-disposable containers can be used to portion the frozen fruit. And cut the fruit before freezing for easier blending.
