Deerhoof

Since I first started listening to American Mavericks on Public Radio, my musical tastes have strayed from the International Lounge genre to something I call Dead Furry Animal music. Perhaps the best example of this genre that I've found, Deerhoof sounds a little like Velvet Underground with their ankles broken -- well-composed chaos. This is the first and only time I've ever heard a female lead singing falsetto.

The band publishes a selection of music online -- they're number XI on the Puzzling Music Archive -- over 25 songs recorded at 3 different bit rates. You can also find ENORMOUS photos of the band on their official website. They also have an 8Mb movie that samples three of their songs -- this has to be a series of commercials made for Japanese TV.
