In case you're wondering, I'm also the websmaster for Chelsea's Cafe. Part of that job is to create short, paragraphs with some positive spin describing certain bands that are going to play. I call them "blurbs". I figure since I spend between half an hour to an hour writing these things, I might as well post them here too.
Strangeness a-brewing at Chelsea's
Friday, January 23:
If you're tired of the same old scene, then Glorybee and Liquidrone may be eclectic kick-in-the-butt you've been searching for. Glorybee is a three-piece band from New Orleans that combines hip-hop, electronica, and noise with a stage show that includes "homemade costumes, outrageous outfits, free raffles with cool and unique prizes, plus edibles such as cupcakes, gummi brains, and gummi hamburgers". Sometimes, there's even a dancing Thai chef that serves "spicy vegetarian delights". Audience participation is encouraged. A veteran of the Baton Rouge scene, Liquidrone has its own strange brew going with funk, jazz and rock blended with circus lunacy and general mayhem. Their song "Church of Mary" has been enjoying quite a bit of rotation on the KLSU airwaves. Checkout this Offbeat article on Liquidrone's front man, Clint Maedgen. Baton Rouge's own quirky (and just as amazing) band, Placebot, will also make an appearance.
3 Band Super Show Coming to Chelsea's
On Saturday, January 24, Chelsea's is proud to host a three band super show with three of Baton Rouge's hottest independent acts. Reception is Suspected aims to elevate the Commodore 64 and its space bleeps to the status that the theremin now seems to enjoy. Check out their MP3 demos. Although their name says it all, you might as well listen to some Gangsta' Folk MP3s. Gangsta Folk is also bringing their C Student Records buddies, The Eames Era, who have the sweetest rock pop sound in Baton Rouge.
Why don't you just come out and say that adjectives like "quirky," "eclectic," and "circus lunacy" translate to a sucky, local band.
Because they are the same adjectives I'd use to describe our marriage.
Ouch!!!
Posted by: The Khanman at September 26, 2004 05:07 PMThanks Mike and Charity! If our band is anything like your marriage, I'm sure we can look forward to a bright, shiny, sucky, local future! Now where're those damned sunglasses?
A cd is en route to you charity. You're also on the list for the next BR show - oct. 28th. Sure as shootin (CHKCHKA) I'll probably see you there.
