The New York Times has a short piece about DJ Danger Mouse's The Grey Album, which is an underground remix of Jay Z's The Black Album and The Beatles White Album.
Record company EMI tried to shut it down, so in response a bunch of websites and blogs offered free downloads of it on their sites yesterday, which was dubbed "Grey Tuesday".
Rolling Stone even reviewed the Grey Album here which has never been commercially available.
It's situations like this that exemplify the how current U.S. copyright laws are being outpaced by trends in technology, requiring the success of projects like Creative Commons. The Creative Commons blog mentions the Grey Album here.

"We are seeing the rapid speed of peer-to-peer come head-to-head with a rabid, worldwide consumer demand for forbidden fruit."
