John Wirt from The Advocate has a profile on The Savoy Family Band, who is playing downtown at Earth Day (5:30 pm) this Sunday. We may best know Joel Savoy, who is the main fiddler for The Red Stick Ramblers, opening on the same stage at noon on Sunday.
First off, I'd like to express my opinion: that Mr. Wirt is a fine writer and I like the fact that he does his own research. But I got a bit confused when reading this article. The Savoy Family band features five members of the Savoy family. Unfortunately, each quote in the article is attributed to Savoy. So I get confused when I run into a quote like: "Everybody had pretty strong opinions about what they wanted," Savoy said.
Which Savoy is that? Does Ann provide all the quotes, or is that Joel, who is mentioned in the previous paragraph?
First names would have been a good choice here, stylistically.
I hate to point this out because I think Mr. Wirt is the bee's knees. Of course, I'm also kissing up because I'd both like to:
#1: Write for him and his publication.
#2: Be featured in his column whenever I get my act together.
Speaking of Earth Day: my favorite Earth Day on-stage quip comes from Linzay Young, The Red Stick Rambler's vocalist. During an Earth Day benefit concert for SEAC (Student's Environmental Action Coalition) Mr. Young was heard to say in his distinctive south Louisiana accent: Hey y'all, let's give it up for the Earth! Because without the Earth, we'd all be floating up in space...
