Bingo Puzzle
It's the first bingo puzzle of the year. It comes from a game I played this evening on the ISC.
My rack is shown at top: ?AAILST.
You know I looked at it and sweated bullets for a few minutes before I came up with a good one. What did I play?
I played ANnALIST 15A for 122 points (definition: a historian). It was my first 3x3 in a long time. I tried making the blank an M or an E for a long time before I found it. ANIMALIST* was the first thing that popped in my head, which I now know isn't even a word.
I'm no longer a contributing member to the ISC, so I've lost the ability to analyze my games postmortem with the computer. But I've checked my Palm and it tells me that ANNALIST was the only 3x3 that would have worked, with the N in that position. I reckon it must be the best play.
